To reduce the amount of emissions trying virtually the entire world — mostly, people want to gradually take the public transport with electric engines, which practically does not harm the environment. The transition to electrical energy is particularly interested in Norway, which in 2017 became the leader in sales of electric vehicles, and by 2040, wants to popularize electric planes. Unfortunately, with the aircraft business is going bad — recently electric Electro Alpha plane crashed.

Alpha Electro is the world’s first aircraft with an electric motor, which is released into production. It was developed by Slovenian company Pipistrel, which belongs to Norwegian airports operator Avinor. At a mass of about 500 kilograms, it accommodates two people, including the pilot. The battery of the aircraft can charge per hour and this energy is sufficient for approximately 60 minutes of flight at altitude to 400 meters at speeds up to 160 kilometers per hour.

In order to find the faults and constantly improve the aircraft, Avinor, the company periodically carries out passenger flights. Recently, in the pilot’s seat sat the head of the company Duck Falk-Petersen, to independently move one of the Norwegian official from one place to another. Unfortunately, while flying over the Norwegian town of Arendal, he had to make an emergency landing into the lake. The blow was soft and no one was hurt, but the incident can greatly affect the development of electric aviation in Norway.

The cause of the crash

The head of the company did not identify the cause of the accident. According to him, he ran into some issues when piloting, called rescuers and started looking for a place to land. Eventually he decided to descend to the surface of the lake and, in principle, made the right decision. He acknowledged that this incident will complicate the work of the company, because she will have to spend a number of additional security checks.

It’s quite a shame, because all previous testing of the aircraft Alpha Electro passed without any problems. For example, in July he was tested in Finland and demonstrated low noise level and environmental friendliness.
