The crew of “Soyuz MS-10” flew to the ISS on the new ship

The crew manned spacecraft “Soyuz MS-12” has successfully docked with the International space station (ISS). Astronauts landing occurred six hours after liftoff, docking took place in automatic mode under control of the crew Chief of the operative group of management of the Russian segment of the ISS. About it reports “Roscosmos”.

The crew of “Soyuz MS-12” consists of three people — Alexei Ovchinin, nick Hayes and Christine cook. The first two were part of the crew “Soyuz MS-10” — ship, the launch of which ended in failure after 2.5 minutes after the start. The astronauts remained unharmed thanks to the emergency rescue system: it took a ship with a crew at a safe distance from the faulty missiles (capsule landed about 400 kilometers from Baikonur).

However, the second launch was successful and the crew went to the ISS on a new ship. Launch from the Baikonur cosmodrome passed 22:14 Moscow time. The ship made four turns around the Earth, which allowed him to dock with the Russian module “Rassvet” in just six hours.

The members of the new crew must return to Earth in October 2019 — thus, they will be in orbit 204 days. It is planned that they will carry several spacewalks: on March 29, has already scheduled the first spacewalk of two women. They will be Kristina cook of “Soyuz MS-12” and Anne McClain, who is already on the ISS.

Two weeks ago, the Dragon Crew vehicle successfully docked to the ISS. However, inside the ship there were no living people: they were replaced by a mannequin of the main character of a series of science fiction films “Alien” — Ripley. Despite fears of Elon musk, the SpaceX Demo mission Crew-1 was successful, and the device without any problems docked to the International space station.

It is assumed that Crew Dragon will subsequently deliver American astronauts to the ISS, allowing NASA to abandon the use of spacecraft “Soyuz”. However, SpaceX has not yet launched the ship into space with humans.
