"Roskosmos" will spend more than 6 billion rubles for the exploration of Mars

The Russian state aerospace agency Roscosmos plans to spend more than 6 billion rubles on the ExoMars project, a joint venture with the European Space Agency (ESA), whose goal is to study Mars and find evidence of past and present life on the Red Planet. This is reported by Interfax with reference to the portal of state procurement.

In the plan published by the state corporation, it is reported that 6.23 billion rubles will be spent on the creation of a space system for the exploration of Mars in the joint project with the European Space Agency ExoMars. In the same materials it is noted that in 2018 more than 623 million rubles were allocated for the implementation of the program. In 2019, the program will spend 2.5 billion rubles, and in 2020 – 1.18 billion. In the next period it is planned to spend 1.928 billion rubles.

ExoMars is a joint Russian-European project to study Mars from orbit using a space probe, as well as in the framework of ground operations. Among the main tasks of the project is the collection of geological samples, as well as the search for Martian life forms.

Recall that the project is divided into two stages. In the first, in 2016, the TGO spacecraft was launched onto the Martian orbit. His task is to study the atmosphere of Mars and to search for chemical elements that could indicate the existence of processes of the origin of life on the planet. In addition, this module is planned to be used to transfer data from the European rover and the Russian landing platform with scientific equipment to Earth, which will be delivered to Mars in the second phase of the ExoMars project in 2020.
