Review headphones Alpha&Delta D3 — style and beauty budget segment

The last time turned out to be quite fruitful for headphones budget (relative to the main mass overlooked) segment. While some models make you wonder: “how they managed to do it for this price?”. Today we’ll talk about these headphones, Alpha&Delta D3.

Stand out in the budget segment is no easy task, and different manufacturers deal with it in different ways. Someone copies the design of popular flagship models, someone is trying to shove more emitters, some combine these approaches… Alpha&Delta decided to go these paths, they are not interested and do differently. I think I’m going to stretch the intrigue and will not be here to list the main features of the model, except that the call price: only $ 35.

  • Emitter: 6 mm, dynamic
  • Impedance: 16Ω
  • Rated power: 1 mW
  • Frequency range: 10 Hz – 20 kHz
  • Sensitivity: 92 dB/mW
  • Cable: 1.2 m silver plated copper
  • Plug: 3.5 mm

Packing and delivery

The box is made of thin cardboard, printing is made in an interesting gray-black colors, the inside has an insert of transparent plastic with headphones and accessories. And here is our first surprise, the last one very much:

  • odnoplanovye three pairs of silicone ear tips
  • a pair of nozzles duplancich
  • pair trehglazaya “Christmas tree”
  • very cool cover of a thick skin
  • leather loop with a “button” for coiling wire

Here, incidentally, the case when the case fall in love with at first sight.

Design and comfortable wearing

At the second glance attention to themselves to pull themselves D3. Very small, ergonomic housing made of metal, and, judging by weight, it is not saved. Well-matched and chrome design: impressive and not too gaudy. The build quality is also close to the reference. The only case when these cool enclosures can be a problem is the winter cold, but cold all metal IEM will be, to put it mildly, not an ideal choice.

Overall, with a strong desire, earphones can be worn cable down, but still behind-the-ear wearing to them much more naturally. D3 sit well in my ears, providing decent comfort, and sound slightly better than average.

The strong point of this model is cable. Fortunately, it did not begin to do replacement, but tried to implement it efficiently, starting with plastic linings that protect against fractures, and ending with the splitter and plug all the most durable. The funny thing is, the plug is made facing at an angle of 45°, apparently as a compromise between the direct and angular options. Very good directly to the conductors of the cable: soft, with good weave, attractive silver color, in General, the wire looks much more expensive than this price. Also pleased with performance, wire is soft, a little confused in the cold almost never hardens.

To listen following equipment was used.

  • Yulong DA9 and Resonessence Labs Concero HP in the role of DAC and amplifier
  • Apple MacBook Pro Retina 2016 as the source
  • Fidelia in the role of player
  • Lotoo PAW Gold, theBit OPUS#2, Astell&Kern, A&ultima SP1000 and the role of other portable players
  • Recording high-resolution Lossless-formats (Dr. Chesky have The Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disc and others)

Before listening headphones were heated for 48 hours, changes in the sound it gave.

In tuning D3 Alpha&Delta focused on a massive sound, so these headphones turned out, of course, not audiophile, with a little bit dark but very nice flow. The model adds a bit of emotion to the record, which sounds impressive, though not always, of course.

Bass is a bit accentuated, but without excess. The bass is massive, but he is very good for this price range rate. The bottom of the filing of this model goes quite deep, although, of course, control deep bass is not perfect, but at least they don’t muffle all and Sundry. Despite the General tendency to “weight”, the headphones do not turn everything into a monotonous hum.

MIDs served a little smooth, without the emphasis on microtelnet instead headphones offer good work at the macro level and a nice addition of emotion — in General, the sound tuned so that even not very high quality tracks remained listenable, and those that are recorded better, played more or less as the creators intended. Imaginary scene a little less than average in depth and width, but it is expected a headphone with a slightly dark flow, especially because most of the styles that they are focused, involve quite intimate flow.

HF worked good from the point of view of quality, but quantitatively they are slightly moved on the second plan for the sake of “comfort sound”. Despite the numerical weakness, treble is very good in extent, which is beneficial to the overall balance of supply and allows the headphones to sound with an unhealthy bias into the dark sound.

To paint too much comparison will not work, as I don’t have many headphones in this price range. Can remember is that Dunu DN-12, also good Bugatti, but in many ways the opposite flow. Model Dunu better on HF (primarily at the expense of quantity), and D3 is better for bass (more accurate and more elastic) and slightly more interesting pass midrange at the expense of added emotion.

Despite the low impedance, headphones are not highly sensitive, which allows them to easily work even with noisy sources. In General, you can use them with your phone, but without a headset, it might be not so comfortable, plus very very low powered smartphones have to be louder than usual. So I would still recommend D3 to any player entry-level, they will complement most inexpensive models.

Stylistically, these headphones are certainly better suited to the music “loving” the emphasis on the bass (there are different electronic music, pop, jazz, etc.), but most other genres sound quite decent (for this price, of course). The quality of the recording is a model of loyal, on a 10-point scale of “picky” they gain somewhere 5 points.

According to tradition, a few examples

Simply Red — Say You Love Me. Well, what to test bass headphones, if not quality pop music? Pleasant the Foundation of the rhythm section, a good study of the tools, the correct emotion on vocals is all that is necessary in order to brighten up the day a ballad of love.

Kovacs — Fool Like You. That’s really really boring song, it has something from the modern melancholic pop (fortunately, few), something from ethnic melodies, something that classic orchestral pop hits of the 60s, reminiscent of the intros of James Bond. The only thing in it is the monotony, but D3 undertake work to demonstrate all of the kaleidoscope and will emphasize the bass Foundation.

Gothan Project — Panamericana. Just when I was going to put in this selection of a modernized Latin-funk, as it ended, and the Flow brought me this wonderful hit, just the same created for the Alpha&Delta D3 — a driving rhythm section, exciting the main melody, hopping from one country to another… In General, and hearing the delight, and for test track.

Unusual for the budget segment as the combination of quality, good design and good package is complemented by a pleasant shaded sound that will appeal to fans of the “mass” of sound. It remains only to note that the affordable segment more and more happy with their innovations.
