New universal robot for agriculture will replace the majority of farm implements

In modern agriculture uses a lot of auxiliary machines and tools for production improvement. And all of this technology not only needs care, place for maintenance and fuel, but also often in possession of special skills for its operation. And one of the firms for the production of Small robots the Robot Company together with experts from Bristol University recently decided that it would be nice to make a universal machine for agriculture and introduced the robot, which can replace the majority of existing agricultural tools.

Contrary to the name of the developer, the prototype turned out quite not small in size. Its height is 3 meters and weighs 250 kilograms. And this is just a sort of “framework” for plug-in modules which can perform a variety of functions. The robot is called Jack.

“The cost of agriculture has increased over the past 30 years, despite the fact that revenues and yield remained the same. We traveled to the UK for six months, talking with farmers about what they want and found that they would not mind to improve their methods, but they have no money for it and technical base.” — said one of the owners of Small Robot Company Scott Robinson.

As for plug-in modules, they are dedicated to performing a variety of tasks. For example, there is a module for trimming grass, for sowing seeds at the optimum for the given conditions of depth, to collect the maximum number of crops, plowing the land and many other things. And for their needs, the experts also developed a special version of artificial intelligence Wilma, who are well-versed in various aspects of agriculture and, in the words of the developers can at, say, harvest “to distinguish wheat from non-wheat”

At the moment, a Small Robot Company expects approval of its patents, and to market plans in 2021. And to spread the robots will be both through direct sales and rentals.
