How to stop auto-opening downloads from the web on a Mac

How to stop auto-opening downloads from the web on a Mac

  1. Open the Safari browser and click on Safari in the menu bar
  2. Click Preferences Preferences
  3. Make sure you select the General tab at the top
  4. Uncheck the box next to Open “safe” file after downloading
