How to organize the space dock on macOS

Hidden features of macOS sometimes surprise even the most experienced users of the operating system. Armed with command prompt, and to approach this process wisely, it is possible finely to fine-tune the desktop operating system Apple, and thereby improve productivity. For example, using a simple trick, you can add special separators in the dock, and thus divided the apps by category.

So, how to add additional tabs in the application bar on macOS?

  • Run the application “Terminal” using Spotlight or any other convenient method.
  • In the command prompt window we have to enter the following command:

defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps-array-add ‘{“tile-type”=”spacer-tile”;}’; killall Dock

  • Dock will restart, then you will see a blank icon, which will serve as a separator. Just have to position it properly.

  • If the icon size is too large, we can use another command to create a more compact version:

defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps-array-add ‘{“tile-type”=”small-spacer-tile”;}’; killall Dock

How to add separators in the partition folder?

Manual absolute identical: only a little different, the commands themselves, you need to enter in “Terminal”:

Large dividers

defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others-array-add ‘{tile-data={}; tile-type=”spacer-tile”;}’; killall Dock

More compact option

defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others-array-add ‘{tile-data={}; tile-type=”small-spacer-tile”;}’; killall Dock

Similarly you can add multiple separators. To remove empty space as easily as any other icon enough to keep it above a Desk or move to trash.
