Scientists from all over the world are trying to blur the line between artificial and living organisms, to ultimately create robots capable of independent work of their own kind. The first step in this direction was recently made by researchers from Cornell University — they have created a biological material that demonstrates three key characteristics of living organisms: self-organization, the ability to metabolism and development.
