CME Group: the number of futures contracts on the Bitcoin hits record

Still not completed the second month in 2019, and CME Group has reported a record daily number of Bitcoin futures. In the first quarter of 2019 year, there was a strong start, and the number of contracts increased to 4630 or 23150 BTC. This 13-percent increase from the fourth quarter of 2018.

Yesterday [19 February], we recorded a new record — 18338 futures contracts. This is equivalent 91690 BTC or 360 million dollars.

The growing interest on the part of institucionales

The letter also mentioned that the institutional interest in futures contracts for Bitcoin has been steadily increasing since November last year.

Since November last year, the indicator of the open interest from institutional investors rose to 43 investors.

Futures provide the opportunity for companies and investors of registered brokers to bet on the future price of Bitcoin. Contracts of the group companies based on the quote CME Bitcoin Reference Rate (BRR), which aggregates the trading activity on BTC for the main spot exchanges from 3 to 4 p.m. in London.

Each contract is 5 BTC and the auction ends on the last Friday of the contract month. Supply calculation is usually made in the following Wednesday. The February futures contracts on the CME Bitcoins expire on February 22.
