Artificial intelligence composes music in the style of death metal live

Research Duo Dadabots, the Boston-based programmers, CJ Carr and Zack Zukowski, is a very unusual thing — teaching artificial intelligence, writing “heavy” music. In 2017, the developers introduced a black metal album “Coditany of Timeness”, and now showed the public the result of the algorithm composing music in the style of death metal. According to them, the algorithm creates pretty decent for this genre of music which requires no corrections, so they decided to give him freedom to compose the tracks live on YouTube.

For training the neural network the developers used the song canadian band Archspire, which is notable for its fast pace sound. In the end, the algorithm has learned to apply high-speed drum parts, the guitar and aggressive vocals so that the result sounded like a real death metal music.

The developers shared that in past times when they were created an artificial intelligence to compose music of other genres, they had to carefully select the final materials — albums, only 5% of the generated tracks. This time the programmers have reached maximum quality, and the material does not require a selection — that’s why they decided not to limit the album, and allowed the algorithm to create music in real time.

According to programmers, increased quality associated with a high rate songs Archspire:

Seems to work faster than the shock, the more stable the music is created.

The Duo has already released a bunch of albums of different genres — among them there is even a collection of songs in the style of the Beatles. Listen to his other musical creations of artificial intelligence, on the official website of the Duo.
