AMD Vega 20 — the first graphics processor with support for PCI Express 4.0

In the beginning of the month, AMD demonstrated the world’s first GPU, created by seminomatous technology. Vega is the GPU 20.

Details about it was not revealed, but everything points to the fact that from the point of view of key parameters, it is no different from the Vega 10, that is, contains all the same 4096 stream processors of the same architecture.

At the same time, due to the transition to finer process technology, is expected to improve frequencies and reduce power consumption. And yet it has 32 GB of memory HBM2, not 16 GB as the “tens”.

As it became known, Vega 20, apparently, is also the first GPU that support PCIe Gen 4.0. The specifications of this standard was published in September last year. The new standard doubled the data transfer rate (up to 16 GT/s and up to 256 GB/s in each direction x16 bus), reduced delays and added other improvements. To support PCIe 4.0 at 20 Vega pointed out earlier leaks and now it confirmed by the source driver for Linux.

As for us, I hope to receive a game card on this GPU. Previously AMD said that it will be based solely on professional accelerators, but later the new head Radeon Technologies Group said that the final decision is still pending. Given that the decisions of the Navi very much delayed, it would be nice to bring improved on all fronts Radeon RX Vega 64.
