Amazon began field-testing their robots-the delivery guy, Scout

Amazon for several years now using robots in its warehouses, trying to automate as many steps of sorting and delivery of goods. In addition, in 2016 the company started to use drones to deliver purchases to the British under the program Amazon Prime Air. This week, the company of Jeff Bezos started field trials of six six-wheeled robots-couriers Scout. They will breed purchase to residents of Snohomish in Washington, according to a company blog.

Robot deliveryman made in the form of a small portable refrigerator with a niche for the goods inside. No technical details about the robot, the company said, however, the blog stated that the Scout is able to overcome various obstacles on the sidewalk, which may indicate that it uses machine vision technology. Apparently, using these same technologies will be conducted and identification of customers.

The products ordered through the Scout will be delivered on weekdays only. All the way for the delivery of ordered purchases, the robot will perform yourself, however, clarifies that the first time it will be accompanied by an employee of Amazon.

Amazon is not the only company that will use robots delivery. More recently it became known that the company Starship Technologies received permission to use similar robots to deliver food to the students of George Mason University. The company also signed an agreement with companies for the sale of food, Blaze Pizza, Dunkin’ and Starbucks.

Last year about plans for the joint development of unmanned vans for delivery of goods declared of Alibaba (one of the largest Asian conglomerates operating in the field of e-Commerce) and RoboSense.
