A new type of led will increase a display resolution of three times

The joint work of scientists from several universities around the world has led to the fact that they were able to create LEDs that can change color. It seemed impossible, as the hue led light bulb directly depends on the used semiconductor material, but thanks to the new composition, they began to change color depending on the feed voltage on them. The new discovery could become the basis for creating displays with unimaginable resolution.

Many might appear that LEDs have long can sparkle with different colors — how else to explain the fact that many “smart” bulbs are so easy to change its color? The fact that inside they use a set of LEDs of red, blue and green. The radiation from these three types of LEDs is mixed in different proportions, and thus the lamp can find purple, orange and other colors.

Similar work and LCD displays, each pixel is created by three tiny LEDs. They all, of course, take up space and if they can be replaced with a single led, the producers would have been able to create a completely new type of displays with three-fold enhanced resolution. Thanks to the new composition of LEDs is quite possible.

The novelty consists of two chemical elements: rare earth europium and gallium nitride. They allow you to change the led color on the fly, by changing the intensity of the supplied current. It is believed that reducing the number of LEDs from three to one, manufacturers can significantly reduce the cost of their devices.
