A new startup is developing a navigation system based on augmented reality indoors

Today to get from point a to point b is not so difficult. Even if you don’t know the town or area is one of the numerous navigation systems or the same map from Google will show you the way. And now imagine a situation in which, certainly, many have turned out: you got to your destination, enter the building and… lost. Where to go? Where I need the office\store\Department? It is quite possible that soon such situations can be avoided, because the US company is developing technology mapping and indoor navigation based on augmented reality (AR).

It is worth noting that this is already promised by Apple. Only here cupertinos has built its system on devices with iBeacon, which must still be determined. There is no “beacon” is not necessary. Need a smartphone.

Works it’s pretty simple: technology is integrated into the internal card space. Because of this it can figure out where at the moment the user is located and then show on the screen of the smartphone. It uses the camera of a device which “removes” the room, and on the screen in real time projected path. In fact, it is very similar to the AR mode in Google Maps, except that it is designed for rooms, not for navigation on the streets.

The development is called Dent Reality and the software relies on GPS data and special algorithms determine the position of the user. The algorithms include methods of distance measurement, object recognition inside the building and the display options of the virtual path with incredible accuracy.

Moreover, the program is based on an open SDK, so third-party developers can make their improvements, and to use software to design their similar products. In addition, the developers have opened access to content on the basis of which was built algorithms.

At the moment, the technology looks very promising, but it is at a very early stage and before the release is still far away. However, if the developers and their partners will succeed — we get a very convenient tool for orientation in unfamiliar spaces.
