17” MacBook Pro and the latest MacWorld…

In late 2008, for a change, Apple has tried to be helpful. Announced that MacWorld 2009 is the last MacWorld with her participation, and that press conference on, it will be Phil Schiller. Nightmare? But it was even worse…

Prior to December 16, 2008, when he left Apple press release with these announcements, the main theme of the “Apple” of media were the prospects for the 17-inch MacBook Pro. MacWorld Expo is a pity, but this is not important: where is jobs? The last time with him, clearly something wasn’t right. Increasingly important and interesting news were other, on the publication of gossip about the state of his health (it’s cancer!!!) earned a lot of money. He died? Or dying?

What will happen now with Mac s and Apple? Waiting for the worst covered “Apple” world, and became a serious problem: who will buy complex technical products company, whose position suddenly ceased to seem immutable?

On 5 January, the opening day of the last Apple MacWorld Expo, the company’s Board of Directors issued a statement: “Steve is the head of the company, if ever he will not be able to control your Apple, this will be announced in a timely manner…”

On the same day, Steve has published an open letter in which he reported that his health problems (immune imbalance, nothing serious) that he is already doing that, and doing it seriously, and to “end of spring” is on sick leave (while remaining head of Apple).

Promising to be the first one to tell about their inability to perform the duties if ever this will happen. Kind of like calmed.

The evening of the same day, a narrow circle of “their” it is reported that the problem was much more serious than he imagined (in a few days everyone knew it), the fear has flashed with new force…

Battery…

January 6, 2009 Apple continued the revolutionary transformation of laptops. For nearly 15 years, the batteries caused the company a lot of trouble – sometimes they even light up (remember the PowerBook 5300?), but even without such incidents, year after year, in real terms they are discharged much quicker than Apple promised.

Dozens of lawsuits (won by Apple: competent, timely PostScript about the conditions under which the charge is retained by the company of the promised time, did their work). In 1991 and 1992, in 1995…

Since 2000 (if not earlier times) in the Apple was the development team of batteries. For iPod, iPhone, and iPod touch purchased products were not good. Battery occupied all available space within these devices, used all possible and impossible tricks… Chemistry, smart management of charge and discharge, much more.

And they set the goal to do the same for your laptop computer. Space in it more than the iPod shuffle – but the needs of the computer are far higher.

A unique approach to solving this problem was not, but in any case other than a feat this accomplishment will not name. We cleared away a space for placing the battery, removing all the excess. Everything that facilitates or makes it possible to replace the battery threw.

The battery cells now occupied the entire amount of space allotted to them. Any unnecessary cubic millimeter of Unallocated space.

Further in the course went the chemistry and tricks. The active material is condensed and compressed, and each segment of connected smart appliances.

What happened, was a one-off and non-replaceable in principle.

As a result, Schiller, with the most honest views, declared that a huge and voracious 17-inch MacBook Pro will be able to operate autonomously for up to 8 hours (using graphics integrated graphics processor NVIDIA GeForce 9400M), or up to 7 hours (on NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT).

Conventional batteries can withstand up to 300 charge cycles. Miracle battery, promised Phil to withstand 1000. Or 5 years of hard work.

Naturally didn’t believe him – and a few brand new MacBook Pro 17” let the experiments. 8 or 7 hours, as he tried to work on “one tank” could not be anyone, but to expose the Apple in a blatant lie: the characteristics of the battery was phenomenal. Two and a half or even three times better than all the other batteries used in 17-inch laptops. Up to 6 hours under moderate use…

Slimmest and lightest 17-inch laptop in the world

Without it anywhere: with a thickness of 0.98 inches (2,49 cm) and weighing in at 6.6 lbs (2 994 g) MacBook Pro 17” was so thin and light all produced in the time of great laptops. If you dig in the history, perhaps you can find more “the best”, but why?

Naturally, the new 17-inch was incredibly beautiful. And durable. Model identifier MacBookPro5,2 (MacBook Pro 17”, Unibody and NVIDIA) released in a single version. As one of the options proposed another processor with a higher clock frequency. The guides often point out both options – but with the exception of processor and prices they are identical.

The chipset is the same as the 15-inch Unibody MacBook Pro. The clock frequency of frontal system bus – 1066 MHz, SATA II (3GB/s).

Processors – default Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz (T9550), as an option offered Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz (T9800). Both Penryn (i.e., technology – 45 nm), with 6 MB of cache second level.

In its base configuration, 4 GB RAM (both slots busy), maximum 8 GB (officially!). Memory type – PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM (1066 MHz, SO-DIMM).

Screen – led-lit, glossy, native resolution of 1920×1200. For an additional fee of $ 50 you can get a laptop with a matte screen and the metal rim around the edges of the screen.

The external monitor resolution up to 2560×1600.

8x DL SuperDrive with slot loading (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW), hard disk 320 GB (5 400 rpm) for an additional cost it can be replaced in the same disk of 320 GB, but with a 7 200 rpm Or SSD volume of 128 or 256 Gigabytes.

3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 Firewire 800 port, Mini DisplayPort. AirPort Extreme supporting 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR built-in Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T.

With an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz (T9550) computer cost 2 799 dollars.

Geekbench 2, 32-bit tests scored 3 points 604, 64-bit – 3 991 score. Ancestor (MacBookPro4,1 17/2,5) – 3 287 3 712.

With an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz (T9800) computer cost 3 $ 099. For a whole dollar more expensive MacBook Air with a SSD of 64 GB in early 2008!

Geekbench 2, 32-bit tests scored 3 957 points, in 64-bit – 4 368 score. Ancestor (MacBookPro4,1 17/2,6) – 3 3 397 and 744.
