Zoom H1n is an update to the very successful and popular models H1, released in 2010. This recorder became a bestseller due to the ratio price/quality, but also compactness and its simplicity. He is in demand from journalists, photographers, musicians, and help. And now the company has decided that it is time to update old man and presented a model H1n. Today we look at what has changed in the new product.

The first thing that catches the eye – an updated design of the recorder. Company some rethought the placement of the controls? and now all the main buttons placed on the front panel of the device. Under the screen are buttons Audio (change sound quality), Lo Cut (cutting frequencies up to 160 Hz), Limiter and Auto Level. Located just below record button and control keys.

As for me, this has considerably simplified access to important functions, because sooner had to turn H1, to make sure that you pressed the button or switched the lever. Now everything has become clearer and easier. Moreover, the developers have increased the screen. It became brighter and more informative.

In H1n appeared analog sensitivity adjustment of the microphones (the wheel). It can now be changed directly during recording, do not fear that there will be some extraneous clicks in the audio track from the click of the buttons.

Another innovation is the auto-start entries and a few extra modes voice recording. Have the opportunity to put down markers and tracks sync, and also a multilayer mode recording. There’s even the option to slow down playback of the recorded tracks, which you will not find in more expensive models.

Like all other audiorecorder line Zoom H1n is equipped with a stereo XY microphone capsules. Maximum sound pressure level is 120 dB, and I can tell you, that’s enough for quite a good recording of a rock concert. What can we say about ordinary presentations. Even at noisy events Zoom recorded sound quality.

In the comments under the video, many noted that it would be nice to paste the example recording. Insert it into the movie itself didn’t make much sense, because the original quality is still changed in the editing process and the output video. So here is a separate fragment to evaluate the quality of the recording (WAV format 24 bit / 96 kHz; included automatic volume control).

Useful functions of the recorder will note the presence of 3.5-mm audio input and audio output. This allows, for example, to assess the level and quality of sound before recording. Also the case has a microUSB port. It is designed to connect to PC for data exchange, but it can also be used as an external sound card or microphone. By the way, included with the recorder are software licenses for audio Cubase and Wavelab that can be useful to users.

Recording Zoom H1n can happen in WAV or MP3 format. The recorder supports memory cards microSD up to 32 GB, and you will be able to write on such a card 15 and a half hours of audio in full quality (WAV 24 bit / 96 kHz) and 555 hours – minimum MP3 (128 kbps).

The recorder is powered by two AAA batteries. When continuously recording a minimum quality Zoom H1n can work about 10 hours. Then you can easily replace the batteries.

Another of the amenities I note the presence of the speaker on the front panel (by the way, he became more loud and better quality compared to last model) and a thread for tripod. Thanks to this recorder can be installed directly on the camera and record a video with audio of higher quality.

As for me, this audio recorder is great for the novice videoblogger, and for a professional journalist or cameraman. It is qualitatively made, records high quality audio, has a flexible recording set-up and nice price. Zoom H1n offers around $ 120, making it one of the best options on the market.
